The Valley of the Viosne

This week Claude will lead us on a delightful 12km (100m rise) walk just beyond Pontoise in the Vexin Française, with its typical villages and tall stone crosses, on both sides of the Viosne River, a tributary of the Oise.   It will be a loop starting and ending in the town of Boissy l’Aillerie.  Part of the hike will be on the remains of the famous Roman road, the Chaussée Jules César, which linked Lutece (Paris) with the future Normandy.

Saturday 29 May Auvers sur Oise with Cecilia

Auvers sur Oise (Val d'Oise) au chateau des Conti

Cecilia has organized an outing to Auvers-sur-Oise this coming Saturday, May 29th, to which she is inviting Idfwalkfriends. Here is her info.

There are a few places left for the outing to Auvers-sur-Oise that I'm organising for the translators' association, Astradul, on Saturday May 29th. I have arranged for a guided tour (in French) "Sur les pas de Van Gogh", 50% of which is paid for by the Association. Individual contributions will depend on the number of participants.

Visits may include Auvers Château with its a promenade show "Voyage into the time of the Impressionists", Van Gogh's house (Auberge Ravoux), and other sites connected with Van Gogh's life. If enough people are interested, we will do a 9-10 km walk through fields and forest.

We will walk in the valley of the Drouette, a meandering tributary of the Eure River that passes through charming villages with picturesque bridges and washing basins.

We can also visit a bird reserve filled with pink flamingoes, emus, peacocks, etc., located in the stately park of the château de Sauvage (admission 7.50€). Along the way, we will pass through St Hilarion and its 14th century church. Upon arrival in Epernon, those who wish may explore the town before taking the train back to Paris.
