The Château de Sauvage and the Sentier de la Drouette
This week Mary Lynne will take us on a 14 km. hike from Gazeran to Epernon in a lovely area southwest of Rambouilllet about 60 km southwest of Paris. We will walk in the valley of the Drouette, a meandering tributary of the Eure River that passes through charming villages with picturesque bridges and washing basins.
We can also visit a bird reserve filled with pink flamingoes, emus, peacocks, etc., located in the stately park of the château de Sauvage (admission 7.50€). Along the way, we will pass through St Hilarion and its 14th century church. Upon arrival in Epernon, those who wish may explore the town before taking the train back to Paris.
We will take the 9:33 SNCF train, 62477, direction Chartres at the Gare Montparnasse, which arrives at Gazeran at 10:08. This train makes a stop at Versailles-Chantiers at 9:46 where I will board. Those who board at the Gare Montparnasse can meet as usual at the head of the quay and board the first car (last one going out).
Return: Trains leave from Epernon at 15:54, 16:24, and 16:54. The 16:24 train does not stop at Versailles Chantiers.
You will need a picnic lunch, good walking shoes, etc.
If you wish to be informed of any eventual changes/cancellations, please r.s.v.p. to mlfich@yahoo.com with your cell phone number if you have one and your home phone if not.
