Canal du Loing - 18 km
This is a 18 km hike along the Loing Canal. We start from the lovely sailor's village of Saint-Mammès, where the Seine river and the Loing river meet. We remember that the 32 mile long lateral canal of the Loing links the Briare and Orléans canals and, therefore, the Seine to the Loire.
Obviously, no ups and down, except some stairs for crossing the canal...
The passage of barges through the numerous locks is always an interesting attraction.
We walk along the charming canal till we reach Grez sur Loing, an other lovely place where many painters had settled into their habits, at the end of XIX century, particularly at Laurent pension or Chevillon hostel.
Picnic lunch, hot drink, sturdy shoes and more, are required as usual.
Getting there:
Gare de Lyon, grandes lignes, TER to Montereau, ligne R, 8.46 am, arriving at Saint-Mammès at 9:38.
We usely sit together in the last car.
Return trains from Bourron-Marlotte. A train every hour: 15:40, 16:40, depending on our pace.
See you on Wednesday!
Remember that you need personal accident and liability insurance to participate in a hike.
