GIVERNY - about 15k
Dear hiking friends,
This week I propose a relatively easy, and cultural hike, about 15 km and 350 m of elevation.
We will begin with a quick tour of Old Vernon with its collegiate church built between the 11th and 16th century and the streets with beautiful half-timbered houses.
We will continue our way to Giverny where we will have lunch.
With a full stomach, you will have 2 possibilities (for about 1h/1h30):
1) Visit of Claude Monet's garden and house http://fondation-monet.com/
Admission prices House and Gardens: Adults: 9,50 €
It is advisable to buy his ticket the day before - From fondation-monet.com (no sale online the same day) to avoid the long waiting queue.
2) Visit of the Impressionist Museum http://www.mdig.fr/ Museum price 7,50 €
You can also buy your ticket online on the museum website.
“From Monet to Van Gogh, 120 paintings and prints will make you discover the fascination exerted by Japanese art on Impressionist and Post-Impressionist painters”.
After this moment of artistic or botanical culture, we will take the road back to Vernon.
Do not forget seasonal clothing, good shoes, picnics and a good drink.
Getting there:
Vernon is outside Ile de France, so either you have to buy a round trip Paris / Vernon (18 € approximately), either your Navigo pass to Mantes la Jolie and a ticket Mantes / Vernon but in case of control you will have to count on a benevolent conductor, at your own risk, I advise against.
Train Paris St Lazare at 8:53 (for Rouen) arrive in Vernon at 9:33 where I will wait for you.
Return from Vernon at 4:47 pm or 5:52 pm
See you soon,
Daniel
NB: Meeting point is at/on the platform, those who wish to travel together usually sit in the rear car.
