Valley of the Bièvre River, 13 km 

Dear Hikers,  

This week we will hike in the valley of the Bièvre River, a modest 36 km Ile de France stream which has its source near St Quentin en Yvelines. The Bièvre flows peacefully east then north to Paris, emptying into the Seine near the Pont d’Austerlitz. There is a trail along its entire length. Our 13 km hike will take us from its source near St. Quentin-en-Yvelines to Jouy en Josas through a bucolic landscape with charming villages. People who prefer a longer hike could continue along the trail to Vauboyen, Bievres or further. You would need the IGN map 2315 OT.

Added attraction  

At the end of the walk, you could visit the Museum of the Toile de Jouy. This would be a great opportunity to learn about the production of this distinguished cotton material, the most famous being the cameo monochrome designs. www.jouy-en-josas.fr  Look under "Decouvrir".

Cette semaine nous allons marcher le longue de la rivière Bievre, un paisible cours d’eau de 36 km qui prendre sa source près de St. Quentin en Yvelines. Nous allons marcher 13 km de St. Quentin a Jouy en Josas dans un environnement champêtre. Celles/ ceux qui préfère marcher plus loin peuvent facilement suivre le chemin vers Vauboyen, Bievres ou plus loin avec la carte IGN 2315 OT. Ou vous pouvez visiter le Musée de Toile de Jouy dans Jouy en Josas. 

Getting there:

We will meet outside the train station of St Quentin en Yvelines (zone 5) at 9:51. There are several ways to arrive at St. Quentin en Yvelines by public transport:

• RER C 7 line, direction St. Quentin en Yvelines, train SLOM passes through Bibliotheque Francois Mitterand at 8:57, Gare d’Austerlitz at 9:00 and St. Michel/Notre Dame at 9:04 arriving at St. Quentin at 9:51.

• SNCF line U from La Defense to La Verriere, train VERI, direction La Verriere, leaves La Défense at 9:14, arrives St. Quentin at 9:47. This train stops atVersailles Chantiers at 9:36.

•  Montparnasse SNCF train 16757, direction Chartres, leaves Montparnasse at 9:06, change trains at Versailles Chantiers, either to the train VERI,  Ligne U, leaving at 9:37, arrives at St. Quentin at 9:47. Or, to the RER C SLOM leaving Versailles Chantiers at 9:28, arriving St. Quentin at 9:36.

Return  

From Jouy-en-Josas (zone 4) RER C 8.  

Toward Massy, 21 et 51 minutes after the hour

Toward Versailles Chantiers, 11 et 41 minutes after the hour.

Bring the usual picnic lunch and rain gear, smiles , sunglasses, all those little surprises to share.

NB: Meeting point is at/on the platform, those who wish to travel together usually sit in the rear car.
