Hike for March 11, 2015

Hike for March 11 - Forêt de Fontainebleau, with Laurence

The hike will start from Bois le Roi and will end in Fontainebleau-Avon. It should be about 17k, very roughly!
We will walk through the forest to Rocher Cassepot and Rochers du Mont Ussy and other smaller rock formations near Fontainebleau.
There will be ups and downs, it will be good exercise to get in shape for the spring and summer. Wear good footwear, poles are a good idea for the daring.

GETTING THERE:

-Take train Gamu from Gare de Lyon direction Montargis at 9.15, arriving at Bois le Roi at 9.51, Zone 5 (the train stops at Melun at 9:45. Departure should be from Hall 1, but check on arrival.)

I will meet you at Gare de Lyon, we will sit in the last car.

-Return trains from Fontainebleau-Avon at 15.30 (arr:16.12) - 16.00 (arr:16.41) - 16:30 (arr:17.15)
There is a brasserie next to the train station.

If you do not have a "Passe Navigo", or benefit from any discounted fares, buy a "Mobilis 5 zones" (16.60€)

Bring a snack, lunch  & enough water.
See you on Wednesday!

Laurence

ps: Sorry, but I don't have a cell phone.

March 4 Hike

We have just one offering for next week, but a terrific one, again near the Yvette, downstream from last weeks's walk. Judy will lead and here is her info.
This week we will walk 19.5 km from Courcelle sur Yvette to St . Remy les Chevreuse , with a chance to walk a couple of kilometers along the old trackbed of the experimental aerotrain , idea of the engineer Jean Bertin - ( farsighted or slightly potty ? You can make your own judgement from the interesting panels along the way!)  http://www.limours.fr/L-aerotrain-de-Jean-Bertinhttps   Aérotrain 01 - 02 Experimental - Music by Jean-Jacques Perrey "Coeur Synthétique" We will also visit the pretty villages of  Gometz le Chatel and Gometz la Ville (where we will have lunch ) . We may make another brief stop for a 5 minute rest in the centre of  Les Molieres if we are making good time . There is one long uphill and as you know what goes up must come down but aside from that no difficulties .
We will probably - no make that definitely - find mud but on the whole it is not too bad underfoot , however at this time of year you will definitely need good footwear , boots preferably , warm and waterproof clothes , lunch , and water .
There are no bail out options as unfortunately the aerotrain never came to fruition !

Travel
I will drive so will meet you at Courcelle sur Yvette

Take RER B train PLAC direction St Remy les Chevreuse as far as Courcelle sur Yvette from Gare du Nord at 9.05 , or Chatelet les Halles at 9.08 , or St Michel Notre Dame at 9.10 or Denfert Rochereau  at 9.16 or any other station in between arriving Courcelle at  9.53  ! As these trains rarely run to time I suggest you get on the first one that comes and if you travel in the last carriage , with a bit of luck you may meet fellow walkers!

Return trains are at worst every 15 minutes .

Both stations are in Zone 5

Hope to see you Wednesday

This week we have two options: a hike in the valley de l'Yvette with Daniel Robinot and a visit in the Batignolles district of Paris with Marcel Kohl. You have to decide if you want to be a city mouse or a country mouse. Both options have a cultural aspect.

First the information for the city mice:

Où  en est le chantier des Batignolles?

Après avoir emprunté la rue Pierre Rebiere pour admirer l’originalité de se bâtiments,
nous arriverons à la Cité des Fleurs, si paisible, et enfin nous jouirons de la chaleur du Comptoir Brochant où nous déjeunerons(optional of course):

Visit of the Batignolles quarter ( 17eme arrondissement) with its immense construction site

How is the work progressing on this site? To find out, join Marcel Kohl at the exit Brochant, (Avenue de Clichy), of Metro line 13, direction Asnieres-Gennevilliers, at 10:10. Our first stop will be at the Maison du Projet, 155 bis, rue Cardinet where an architect-lecturer, Corinne Martin, will present the architectural aspects of the project and what has been done in the area under construction. This visit is free.

Next we will cross the magnificent Martin Luther King Park to see for ourselves the progress on the Court House and the seat of the Judicial Police (the French Scotland Yard) and we will proceed to the Batignolles Cemetery to pay respects to the poet Verlaine ("Le ciel est par dessus les toits").

After admiring the original architecture of buildings on rue Pierre Rebiere we will walk down the peaceful street "Cite des Fleurs",  and then on to  the warmth of the Comptoir Brochant for lunch, optional of course. choice of main course + dessert = 13,90 euros.

After lunch, if you wish, we will visit the Square des Batignolles, with its incredible variety of water birds,  and then the  old Batignolles quarter in the shadow of Manet, Zola, Jaques Brel, Mallerme, Henry Miller, etc.

Now for the country mice:

The day of the 25 will be well filled. I propose to you an excursion in the valley of the Yvette, a small river which will accompany us often during walk. We will begin this day with a small walk of approximately 5 km before arriving at Le Mesnil Saint Denis where we will visit the abbey Notre Dame de la Roche (45 mn approximately and 7€ the visit). Then we will go to the  park of the town hall-castle for our picnic lunch.
After this quiet morning, it will be necessary for us to go at a  good pace because there will remain 13 to 14 km to be traversed. But there will be many things to see, I leave you the surprise; take your cameras.

The visit of the abbey will be accompanied by a person from the tourist information centre. Try to have the exact amount of money ready (7€), and, as usual, good shoes, sunscreen and humour. I will deal with the weather :-)

TO COME:: Paris-Montparnasse, train REPU at 8:54, arrival at Coignières at 9:42
I will meet you at the station.

VF :
