Wednesday 30 June at St Germain en Laye

St Germain en Laye, Trajan's Column

Chers randonneurs,

C'est Kat qui conduira la randonnée de mercredi 30 juin de Saint-Geramin-en-Laye à Maisons-Laffitte.

The walk will start at St Germain en Laye. There are trains every ten minutes or so. Kat proposes two possibilities for getting there, both using line A, both trains marked with the code ZEBU.
  • Châtelet les Halles at 9:33, Etoile at 9:39 arriving at Saint Germain-en-Laye 10:03
  • Châtelet les Halles at 9:43, Etoile at 9:49 arriving at Saint Germain-en-Laye 10:13
The 10.15 rendezvous is in Saint Germain en Laye at the cafe across the street from the RER exit and the chateau.

The walk will be about 10 km, but we can add more if our group is in the mood for more. The weather report predicts close to 30 degrees for the day, so it might be a good idea to have a shorter walk this week.

We will walk along The Terrasse de Saint Germain, designed by Le Nôtre, about 2,4 km long. There is a beautifull view of the valley of the Seine and the western suburbs of Paris. Then into the woods of the foret de Saint Germain, coming out at Maisons Laffitte where we'll have a refreshing drink.

We will finish at the RER station of Maisons Laffitte where there are trains for Paris every 10 minutes.

Wednesday 23 June at Samois

Samois sur Seine

Dear hikers,

This week, Daniel Perot will continue to lead us on the GR 2 along the Seine, this time from Fontaine le Port to Champagne sur Seine. Here is his information:

Wednesday 23 June we continue the GR 2 from Fontaine le Port to Champagne sur Seine. For the most part our path will follow the Seine, with several detours to appreciate nearby
forests and villages. We'll pay special attention to the charming village of Samois, the home of Django Reinhardt, famous jazz guitarist, composer and orchestra leader.

As it happens, the hundredth anniversary of his birth will be celebrated by a Django Reinhardt Festival at Samois 23 - 27 June. Full information at
www.festivaldjangoreinhardt.com.

Our walk will cover 18 km. Those who want a shorter walk can catch a train back to Paris after 12 km.

Getting there At the gare de Lyon take the train GIMO at 10.05 direction Montargis, arriving at Melum at 10.31. There we change for train 51439 at 10.36 direction Montereau, arriving at Fontaine le Port at 10.47.

Return from Champagne sur Seine at 16.45 arriving in Paris at 17.41 or 17.44 arriving in Paris at 18.43.

Purchase a one-way ticket as the return will be from a different station. If you are coming from the suburbs into Paris and then on to Fontaine le Port,
a six-zone Mobilis will be slightly cheaper and much more convenient than
separate tickets.

Meet at the head of the quay at gare de Lyon.

Bring a picnic lunch, water, good shoes and rain/sun gear, just in case.

If you wish to be informed of any changes or cancellations, please r.s.v.p. to daniel.perot@free.fr with your cell number if you have one and

Wednesday 16 June at Rambouillet

View from the rochers d'Angennes

Le Foret de Rambouillet et les Rochers d'Angennes

This week's hike (18 km) will be led by Claude and Mary Lynne in the beautiful Rambouillet Forest. It will take us through the Rochers d'Angennes which will remind us of the Fontainebleau Forest. We will start in Gazeran and finish in Rambouillet, passing by the château on our way to the station.

To go: We will take the 9:33 SNCF train, 62477, direction Chartres, at the Gare Montparnasse which arrives at Gazeran at 10:08. This train makes a stop at Versailles-Chantiers at 9:46 where M.L. will board. Those who board at the Gare Montparnasse can meet as usual at the head of the quay and board the first car (last one going out).  Claude will meet us in Gazeran.

You will need a picnic lunch, good walking shoes, rain and sun protection, etc.

Return: SNCF train from Rambouillet at 16:05, 16:09, or 17:05.

If you wish to be informed of eventual changes or cancellations, please r.s.v.p. to mlfich@yahoo.com with your cell phone number if you have one and your home phone if not.

Wednesday 9 June from Melun to Fontaine le Port

Fontaine-le-Port (Seine-et-Marne) la Seine

Our walk on June 9 will be led by Daniel Perot. Here is his information.

Dear Hikers,

This Wednesday 9 June, we will resume the walk we started last November on the GR 2 along the Seine. This time we will hike from Melun to Fontaine le Port. The distance will be 16 km on flat terrain. It will be possible to leave the walk early and return to Paris from Bois le Roi or Chartrettes, in which case the distance would be 11,5 kilometers.

Getting there. − Take the train GIMO at gare de Lyon at 10:05 (direction Montargis). The arrival station is Melun at 10:31.

Purchase a one-way ticket as the return will be from a different station. If you are coming from the suburbs into Paris and out again to Melun, a ''Mobilis'' ticket for 6 zones is perhaps slightly cheaper and certainly much handier than purchasing separate tickets.

Meet at the head of the platform at the gare de Lyon. At Melun, exit to city centre (place Gallieni).

Return from Fontaine le Port at 15:58, arriving in Paris at 16:41. Or 16:58, arriving in Paris at 17.41.

Bring a picnic lunch, water, good shoes and rain gear, just in case.

If you wish to be informed of eventual changes or cancellations, please r.s.v.p. to
daniel.perot@free.fr with your cell number if you have one and your home phone if not.
