hike for June 19

This week's walk, on Wednesday, 19 June, will be led by Daniel Perot.  He
has provided the following information.

The walk will be in the Forest of Saint Germain en Laye.  It will
start in Saint Germain, admiring the château of François I and walking along
the château terrace with its panoramic view towards Paris. Then we will
zigzag quietly through the forest to our destination at Maisons Lafitte, a
lovely residential town known for its horse racing.

To get to the start of the walk at Saint-Germain-en Laye, take the RER A,
direction Saint-Germain-en-Laye, which leaves Châtelet/Les Halles at 9:34, Etoile/Charles-de-Gaulle at

9:40. and which arrives at Saint-Germain-en-Laye at 10:02. Buy a single ticket as we will return from the station "Maisons Laffitte", on another branch of the RER A.

Saint-Germain en Laye and Maisons Laffitte are in zone 4.

At St-Germain, take the exit "église".  The meeting point is in front of the
church.

The walk will last approximately 3½ hours with an optional visit of Maisons-Lafitte.

Bring your picnic lunch, water and Spring/Summer equipment.

Hike for June 12

L'été semblant enfin s'annoncer, Claude Faure propose donc une longue randonnée champêtre. Summer seems to have finally arrived; Claude Faure proposes a long hike in the country. Here is his information:

AUX PORTES DU VEXIN

Vers Mantes-la-Jolie, le département des Yvelines s'étend au nord de la Seine formant ainsi une enclave en frontière avec le " Vexin français". C'est ce territoire que je vous propose de parcourir à travers campagne et bois et en longeant ou surplombant la vallée de la Seine. C'est une longue randonnée de 21 km et 390 m de dénivelé aux paysages très variés.

Near Mantes-la-Jolie, the department of the Yvelines extends north of the Seine forming an enclave (wedge) of land between the Seine and the "Vexin français". We will ramble  21 km. with a 390 m. altitude change, through a variety of landscapes, across fields and woods and also walking along paths overlooking the Seine valley.

Départ Gare St Lazare à 9 h 07 train direct en direction de Mantes-la-Jolie. Arrivée à Mantes-la-Jolie à 9 h 39 où je vous attendrai (sortie de la gare côté nord vers la ville). Claude will meet us at the exit of the station on the north side towards the city. (Bring your compasses!)

Retour : Gare de Mantes-la-Jolie à 16 h 08 (peut-être avant si vous marchez bien) train direct arrivant à Paris St Lazare à 16 h 40

Comme d'habitude, tenue de saison, pique-nique et bonne humeur.

As usual you will need a picnic lunch, appropriate clothing and your good humor.

02 June 2013

Dear Hikers,

This week's hike on Wednesday, June 5, will be led by Michel Browne. Here are the details.

"For next Wednesday I propose a walk from Lagny-Thorigny to Esbly.

From the Lagny-Thorigny train station we’ll take the bridge over the Marne to Lagny and walk east along the sometimes impressive bourgeois meulières on the river.  Later we’ll walk along the “sculptures”, an art piece in the making since several years.  Still on the left bank we’ll reach the “Chalifert” lock and its beautiful sycamore trees at the entrance of a rare canal in a tunnel.
Walking around the tunnel we’ll take the left bank of the “Chalifert to Meaux” canal then walk along the “Montry” canal to reach our picnic point between the “Grand Morin” river and the canal, the latter going above the former, all that in sight of the Marne.  The after lunch will be spent between Marne and the canal on an island .  Then we’ll go to the Esbly train station.  The walk is expected to be 18 kms long.  Escapes are possible after 10 kms, before picnic, or after 12 kms, after picnic.  In any case return is from the Esbly train station.

Train specs:  Take the 9h31  train to Meaux from Gare de l’Est (lignes Ile de France).  Lagny-Thorigny is the third stop and should be reached five minutes to 10.  I will be there waiting at the station.  Return will be from Esbly  (next station on the train line) and will take five more minutes to Gare de l’Est.  There are trains every half hour (every quarter of an  hour around rush hour).

See you there for a hopefully great walk."
