Our walk on July 31 will be led by Daniel Perot.

> So I'll be reasonable to all Seniors: it will be a 12/14-kilometre walk or option 10/12-kilometre with return by bus.

The walk will take place along the beautiful banks of the Marne and its

> We'll visit the Château of Champs (outside) and the garden "à la

----
HAPPENING -- After six years of work, the Château de Champs has just reopened. You can leave the group and make the visit from 1:30 pm. Price: 7.5 euros. (Free on Sunday). Distance from the château to RER station is 2 kilometers. A bus can take you there.

Dear Hikers,

This week we will have walks on Monday and Wednesday. Bob Levy will lead on Monday (tomorrow) and Claude Faure will lead on Wednesday.

On MONDAY July 22, Bob Levy is proposing a leisurely 10 km walk from the Village SCEAUX (ZONE #3), through the Forest Verrieres, then down to IGNY (ZONE #4) along the River Bievres.  In Sceaux the route will take us onto the grounds of the Chateau, then through the gardens near Musee Chateaubriand.  A gentle ascent through the Bois de la Vallée aux Loups, a level walk though The Forest Verrieres, and down to the RER at IGNY.  For those who wish to add another 1.5 kms, we can extend the walk along the River Bievres to the gare at BIEVRES (ZONE #4).
Lunch will at a great spot in the Forest Verrieres.
Almost all of this walk is shaded.
Please note that the leader has not done two short parts of this walk before.  It is an excellent opportunity for you to laugh at your leader.  More than laugh, to feel absolutely superior.

14 July 2013

Dear Hikers,

We have a Monday and a Wednesday walk this week.

On Monday, Thuy Auguste proposes a 9 km walk in the Bois de Vincennes.

The meeting place will be at 10:00 at the base of the statue at the Porte Dorée, Metro line 8 or Tramway Porte Dorée.

The Bois de Vincennes is the largest Parisian park, slight larger than the Bois de Boulogne. According to legend, it was in these woods that Saint Louis rendered justice under an oak. We will walk around the Lake Daumesnil (taking its name from the Baron Pierre Daumesnil) with its two islands: Reuilly and Bercy) accessible by bridges. With a bit of luck, on one of the islands we may see male peacocks spread their tail feathers. The island of Reuilly has a grotto, artificial cascades and a rotonda. Nearby is the Vincennes Pagoda, a Buddhist temple which has been visited by the Dali Lama.

After the Lake Daumesnil we will head to the Lac de Gravelle the smallest of the four lakes but the one with the highest elevation. It was dug to regulate the water level in the other lakes and to regulate the level of the water in the Marne River. We might see a few sport fishermen practice fly fishing, the only type of fishing permitted in the park.

We will then return to the Porte Dorée for a picnic lunch, or test one of the many restaurants in the neighborhood if you wish.

==================================

On Wednesday, Janine Collet will lead us about 10 km along part of the Coulée Verte to the Parc de Sceaux. You probably know that this Coulée verte covers part of the underground section of the TGV Atlantic. The walk will take us to the Parc de Sceaux where we will have our picnic lunch.

Rendez vous: 10:30 at the exit of the station Chatillon Montrouge which is the terminus of Line 13.

The walk will terminate at the RER B station of La Croix de Berny. For those of you who will want to continue walking, there are plenty of options. You will need your own map, or GPS.
