Boucle autour de Gif sur Yvette

This week our hike will be another loop around Gif-sur-Yvette, but on different paths than on last Wednesday’s hike with Serge. Our 15 km walk will take us past the Chateau de Button owned by the CNRS, along the Merantaise stream, into the Bois de Grais and the Bois Aigrefoin then down to and along the Yvette to see a scale model of the solar system before heading back to the station at Gif.

Those who want/need more exercise could continue along or near the river Yvette to Orsay and beyond on the GR 655. In this case you would need IGN map 2315 OT, Palaiseau Arpajon.

Travel information:

RER B train PLAC, direction St. Rémy Les Chevreuse, leaves:

Gare du Nord 8:50, Châtelet Les Halles 8:53, St. Michel Notre Dame 8:55,                 Denfert Rochereau 9:01

Get off at  Gif-sur-Yvette à 9:35. Mary Lynne will meet us at the station.

Return trains from Gif leave every 15 minutes.

Please remember a picnic lunch, plenty of liquids, rain and sun protection and your usual good humour.

Sur les hauteurs entre Gif sur Yvette et Saint Rémi les Chevreuse 18km

Une boucle de 18 km à partir de la gare de Gif sur Yvette, 2 possibilités de bail out à Saint Rémi puis à Courcelle sur Yvette.

On marchera le plus souvent en sous-bois mais aussi dans des zones résidentielles et un peu en bord de champs. 250 m de dénivelé (2 pentes raides mais courtes ; une seule si bail out).

Pour s’y rendre:

  RER B, de Denfert à 8h49 (Chatelet à 8h41) ; train PLAC. 

Arrivée à Gif sur Yvette à 9h21

Retour de Gif sur Yvette tous les quart d’heures.

Around Lardy

Dear walkers,

Loop Hike around Lardy including Park around Chamarande Castle

14 KM, 16 KM, 19 KM approximately

Hike through some pretty villages, woods, farmland, some ups and downs.

Don't forget your picnic, water, hot drink or equivalent (!) wear appropriate footwear and warm clothes – it could be humid, cold, muddy! 

Getting there:

Line RER C Direction St Martin Etampes, from Bibliothèque Francois Mitterrand Station, last carriage

train ELBA leaves BNF at 9.01 ( before goes through Austerlitz, St Michel, Musee d’Orsay, Invalides, etc.)

Arrives at Lardy 9.50 

Retour 16.08, 16.38, 17.09 . Length of Journey: 44 minutes

Walk for 13 March 2019

Around  Cergy  Lake  

This week I propose a walk around the lake in Cergy (and more, of course), 

20 km and 300m of elevation.

We will walk at a steady pace. As usual take a picnic lunch, water and of course 

shoes and clothing adapted to the season.

Getting there:

From Paris, RER A Train UZAR27, 8.48 at Châtelet-Les Halles

(8.45 at Gare de Lyon / 8.59 at La Défense).                                

Arriving at Cergy St Christophe at 9.35.                                     

Return by the same station.

Walk for 6 March 2019

City guided walk with a theme: composers in Paris -   4-5 km

I propose on Wednesday the 6th of March a walk through Paris on composers’ paths (Saint-Saëns, Poulenc, Gounod, Mozart…)

through the 6th, 7th and first districts, 4-5 km

Meeting point :

at 10 o’clock under the statue of Danton at Odeon (M° Odeon).

We will stop for a picnic during the walk which will end between 4 and 5p.m. somewhere close to a subway station.

Je propose le mercredi 6 mars prochain une balade parisienne sur les pas des compositeurs à travers les 6e, 7e et 1er arrondissements à la rencontre de Saint Saëns, Poulenc, Gounod, Mozart…, 4-5 km

Rendez vous à 10h sous la statue de Danton à l’Odéon (M° Odéon)

Pique nique en cours de la balade et fin de la promenade entre 16h et 17h, quelque part proche d’un métro.
