Mercredi 29 Avril, je vous proposons de nous balader pendant environ 3 heures dans l’ile de la Jatte, rendue célèbre par Seurat, et d’autres peintres impressionnistes.

Marcel proposes a three hour walk on the Île de la Jatte, rendered famous by Seurat and other Impressionist painters.

We will walk along the Seine and explore this magnificent island before heading to the Parc de Becon where we can admire two buildings constructed for the Universal Exhibition of 1878 on the Champs de Mars: the Indian Pavillon with its golden domes and the Swedish-Norwegian Pavillon made with Norwegian red pine, and now transformed into a little museum. The visit is free and our visit will be short.

Pique-nique (éventuellement à couvert) dans le parc de Bécon. You will need a picnic lunch.

Retour vers le métro”Pont de Neuilly” avec (time and weather permitting) possibilité d’extension pour jeter un coup d’oeil à la fondation Louis Vuitton dans le bois de Boulogne.

We will return to the Metro Pont de Neuilly. Time and weather permitting, we could make a side trip into the Bois de Boulogne to see the new Louis Vuitton Museum.

And now for Bob's info:
For Wednesday 22 Avril Bob Levy is proposing a slower walk along the River Bievre.  The walk can be as long as the walker desires as there are many GARES de RER along the Route.

We begin at the Gare de VERSAILLES CHANTIERS (SNCF and RER) one level above the tracks.  There is a large BLACK train-schedule sign hanging from the ceiling (sign no longer used) and we will meet beneath it.

From Versailles Chantiers we will walk through forest to Etang Val d'Or and then along the lovely River Bievre.  The river winds through field and forest, through the village of Buc, beneath an enormous aqueduct, and onward through horse country to Les Loges de Josas.  From there we continue through open country to Jouy en Josas, then Vauboyen.  All three villages have RER Gares on the Line 'C'.  For those who wish to continue further it is an easy and flat walk to villages Bievres and onward, in each town the RER 'C'.

The hills on this route are few, and they are gentle.  There will be NO reason to hurry and there will be rest stops at the top of each.

The approximate distances for this walk are as follows:
To Les Loges de Josas / Petit Josas:        6 kilometers.
To Jouy en Josas                                       9 kilometers.
To Vauboyen                                            12 kilometers.
To Bievre                                                  14 kilometers.

It is recommended that each walker buy a MOBILIS for the day, ZONES #1 - 4, to allow for the most flexibility.

TRANSPORTATION: TO VERSAILLES CHANTIERS:

Plan on being at Versailles-Chantiers no later than 10:00.
From Paris Gare Montparnasse: 9:20 AM, DIRECTION PLAISIR GRIGNON, TRAIN 'GOPI', ARRIVE VERSAILLES-CHANTIERS 9:45.
From La DEFENSE:                     9:13 AM, DIRECTION VERRIERE, TRAIN 'VERI', ARRIVE VERSAILLES CHANTIERS 9:36.  Bob Levy will likely be on this train.

TRANSPORTATION: RETURN TO PARIS

RER 'C' FROM ANY OF THE VILLAGES NAMED ABOVE.   The train can be taken in either direction; Direction Versailles Chantiers or Direction Massy-Palaiseau to connect with the RER 'B'.  Mid-day these trains run avery 30 minutes.

Things to bring.
1. The usual stuff: lunch, hiking shoes, water-proof clothes.
2. A readinesss to laugh.

April 1 hike

Next week we will head south of Paris to La Ferte-Alais in the Essonne department with Judy Choat as leader.  Here is Judy's info:

An April Fool's Day Hike ! (those of you who are not fools will be equally welcome !)
This week we will walk 19 km from La Ferte Alais to Ballancourt through forest and field passing through the attractive village of Mondeville , the unusual Chateau de Saussay ( two pavillons facing each other ), a ruined chapel, and finishing with glimpses of the Essonne River.
There are two long hills and a short slightly tricky rock section which has to be climbed and scrambled down from as lunch will take place on the top of it ! Otherwise the walk is mainly flat .
Lunch will be after 9km which is a little on the early side so we will see if we need a second  pause during the afternoon for a 5 minute breather .
We are sure to find mud so wear suitable footwear and be prepared for any kind of weather, assume the forecast will be wrong, and don't forget your lunch and plenty of water
TRAVEL
From Gare de Lyon take RER D ( train BUPE ), direction Malesherbes, at 8.39 to La Ferte Alais arriving 9.41. I shall be travelling at the back of the train; I leave it up to you whether or not you join me !!

The return journey will be from Ballancourt and the trains are hourly at 51 minutes past the hour arriving in Paris at 48 minutes past the hour . We may catch the 15.51 but it would be safest to assume we will catch the 16.51.
Both these stations are in zone 5.

All hikers are required to have personal accident and liability insurance.

See you Wednesday.
