Wednesday 10 April at Port Royal / Sunday 21 April at Morbras

Abbey dovecote at Port Royal

Judy Choat will lead our hike next Wednesday. At the end of her announcement, there is an invitation from Daniel Perot to join a walk that he has planned for Sunday April 21. We're sending the information early so that you can plan ahead.

Judy's info:
This week I thought a walk of 19.5 km from St Remy les Chevreuse to the Granges du Port Royal and back in a loop would be enjoyable, passing the pretty little bridges across the river Yvette in Chevreuse, climbing up to the Château de la Madeleine (via some steps and a slope) and eventually having lunch in the grounds of the Grange du Port Royal which gives superb views over the ruins of an abbey (unfortunately surrounded by scaffolding at the moment) which, along with the farmstead, originally belonged to the Jansenist sect.

This is an ideal picnic spot with tables, toilets, vending machines and access to the little gardens and the orchard. However all this luxury comes at a cost!! The entry fee to the park is 1€ so you had better start saving! There is also an interesting museum there which you may want to visit on another occasion. After lunch we will walk back to St Rémy through some very attractive hamlets and villages including Milon la Chapelle with its nice wee church.

Travel

We will catch RER B train PLAN, direction St Rémy lès Chevreuse  from Châtelet Les Halles at 9.11 (last carriage) arriving St Remy (zone 5) at 9.58 . This train calls at  St Michel Notre Dame at 9.13 and at Denfert Rochereau at 9.18.
I shall drive so will see you at St Rémy in front of the station.
Return trains from St Rémy are frequent.

If you are not sure you are on the right train and you can't see anyone else please call and within reason we will wait for you.

Please wear suitable shoes (remember, I am good at finding mud!), bring a picnic and plenty of water. It could still be chilly so wear warm clothes.
